Despite the usual quiet period in early January, the news of the iPad saw a surge in average daily unique browsers for tech websites last month.

The SMH's tech team continue to pump out the stories as the site maintains the top position, sitting on 68,271 unique browsers, which was up by 23 per cent from the previous month.

In fact, according to technology editor Asher Moses, the site yet again cracked the one million unique browser mark for the period of January, which was also the most highly-trafficked month for the team so far.

Meanwhile, CNET trailed behind on 44,707 unique browsers, a nice increase from the previous month's 31,144 figure. In third spot was The Age on 31,124, followed by News.com.au, which attracted 28,872 unique browsers.

Next up were Gizmodo (23,989), ZDNet (15,426) and Lifehacker (13,344). AustralianIT was unmoved from the eighth rung (11,247), and PC World (7,282) and TechRepublic (7,070) rounded out the top 10 .
