Paul McKeon, former IBM and Dell PR pro, is back in the tech sector taking over the Intel public relations manager role from Anna Torres, who is currently on maternity leave.

McKeon has joined Intel on a one-year contract and told ITJourno he was very much looking forward to starting the new role next week. "Intel is a great company and one I've always admired," he said.

Prior to this appointment, McKeon worked as the communications manager at Norton Rose, which last year merged with his former company Deacons.

McKeon said that having the opportunity to execute the communications plan on a sizable merger like that, which took place between Deacons and Norton Rose, was something he had always wanted to do.

"Having executed that merger, that was a milestone for me and I'm very glad I had the chance to do it."

McKeon said that he hadn't found working in the legal industry to be significantly different to his tech roles, although he noted that many of the changes that had taken place in tech some years ago, had only recently filtered through to legal publications like commenting and reader interaction.

Working in tech had also given him an edge in terms of social-media savvyness and while he'd been able to lead the way in terms of giving Norton Rose a presence on the various social media channels, most competitors had managed to catch up over the past 12 months.

Indeed, he said that being active on Twitter over the past couple of years and following many of his contacts in the tech journalist community, meant that "in a way it feels like I never left".

McKeon, who worked in agency land at Rowland and PPR, as well as having a stint as comms manager at Allianz joined IBM in 2000 before shifting to Dell in 2004.

He left the tech sector to move into the communications manager position at Deacons in 2008.
